The Alder Tales
By R.S. McCoy

The Alder Tales

Book 1: Blossom and the Beast

Back Cover:

*A paranormal romance retelling of Beauty and the Beast*

Blossom Frane is only weeks away from her transformation. On her eighteenth birthday, she’ll find out her future branch of society and her totem, the animal form she’ll be able to take at will for the rest of her life. Like her brothers, she’s expected to be a brown bear of the religious branch known as Terra.

In the Alderwood forests, Blossom’s bear blood is a valuable asset. Any day now, a rival clan leader will step forward and offer her father a hefty bounty in exchange for her hand in marriage. Blossom can do nothing more than sit back and wait to be traded to the highest bidder.

Determined to spend her last weeks exploring the Alderwood, Blossom sneaks away and manages to find Kaide Landel, a rising political star of the Pyro branch. Known for his violence and disregard for the religious teachings of the Terra branch, he’s all wrong for the bear clan’s prized daughter. But when the politician uses his wealth and influence to secure her hand, Blossom has no choice but to leave her family and marry him—if she lives that long.

My Review:

Oh man, oh man. I am so glad I can be telling you about all the books at once, because this is the kind of series that makes me tear my hair out waiting for the next book to come out. I devoured this series. In 72 hours, I read all four of the books. I couldn’t wait a second longer to find out what happened to the brilliant and lovable characters.

There is such deep meaning behind each character, even the villains are written with a backstory. R.S. McCoy has a gift for writing bewitching characters and forbidden romance. Her poetic prose, dynamic and deep characters, the way she spins a forbidden romance… just wow.

Plus, spoiler alert–You’ll LOVE the ending of the series. How many times do I get to say that about a series?! Not enough, I’ll tell you that. There are a lot of plot threads in this book and a lesser author would have left a few untied threads, but R.S. McCoy does an excellent job of tying them all up in the most satisfying way possible.

I’d highly recommend this series to anyone interested in the genre of paranormal romance or YA dystopian. Please note, there are some scenes that get pretty hot and heavy, but no overt sex scenes. I’d recommend to older YA audience and adults. But if you’re not sure, just read it yourself first before passing it along to your teen. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!
